Somalia receives Turkish equipment to modernize Agriculture Ministry operations

Somalia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation received modern office equipment from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency on Sunday to strengthen and modernize the ministry’s operations.

The equipment, donated by TIKA, includes computers, printers and television screens that will be installed in the ministry’s new building to improve efficiency and speed up service delivery.

Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Mohamed Abdi Hayir Mareye said the Turkish support would help strengthen institutional capacity, improve services and support Somalia’s efforts to achieve food self-sufficiency.

“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to TIKA, the development agency of our brotherly nation, the Republic of Türkiye, for delivering today the first phase of their response,” Mareye said after the handover ceremony in Mogadishu.

The minister said the request for support was presented to TIKA President Abdullah Eren during a meeting in Ankara in 2025.

“We deeply value this partnership and look forward to continued cooperation with our Turkish friends,” Mareye said.

Since then, Turkish humanitarian and technical development assistance to Somalia has topped $1 billion, including projects in areas such as health, education, municipal services, and infrastructure.
